2023 was another busy year for us at Downlands Architectural Design and Surveying. So, we’d like to keep you up-to-date with our news.

Support for students

We have been taking work experience students most years since 2014. It not only helps the student experience the world of work but is also very rewarding for us to see them develop and grow in confidence during their time with us.

This year we have expanded our offering to both Year 10 & Year 12 students with both booked in already for February and July 2024.

In July 2023 we welcomed Jess from Uckfield College to join us for a week of Work Experience. She was able to use the CAD system from her experience at college. We put this to practical use after measuring a garden for a new Land Registry Plan. We inspected a new build industrial unit, a community Hall and visited a local animal rescue centre in connection with a maintenance schedule. Of course there was some architectural design work too.

Projects

We have been carrying out a lot of work for the above mentioned Animal Rescue Centre with a full 10 year maintenance plan prepared for them so that they can ensure funds are appropriately assigned.

Just in the New Year we had the privilege of inspecting a large listed building in Uckfield, previously converted to several large dwellings, but needing constant ongoing maintenance. We are currently preparing the report on this.

We worked with Alex of Sussex Drone Surveys who assisted with the roof elements, which would otherwise have required scaffolding for safe access.

Useful to know

Did you know that your house insurance usually covers the professional fees of a surveyor/engineer/architect to assess and specify the reinstatement after an insured incident such as fire or flood.

We are about to start on such a project for a client who was not happy with the way the Loss Adjuster was handling matters. At such a disturbing time we can take some of the hassle out of the reinstatement. We deal with emergency works required in the very early stages as well as a full assessment of the works required, liaising with Loss Adjusters and Contractors until the project is complete and you can have your home back.
